M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records spearheaded a history making event aboard a seaside carrier with Karen Clark-Sheard, powerhouse recording artist, songwriter and record label executive. Over 1000 supporters flooded the Bayside Gospel Concert aboard the U.S.S. Midway for a memorable night of music and ministry on July 27, 2014.
The high energy show began with a medley of patriotic songs, leading to one exceptional performance after another before Sheard spectacular finale. The star-studded lineup drew national attention from Trinity Broadcasting Network’s, JUCE TV new cable broadcast and captured the biggest and brightest artists as they hit the stage from Men 4 Christ, Archie Robinson & N.B.P., David Dredden & Undefeated, Eddie Baltrip & Fulfillment to Stephanie Stephens.
Sheard kept the audience riveted to the flight deck during the inaugural event with chart topping songs from her past. The charismatic artist had a limitless repertoire of hits to choose from; her career spans from the Clark Sister to recent projects like “All in One” the first CD on her own label, Karew Records.
One of the evening highlights has concert goers were dancing in the aisles when Sheard brought the Divine Praise Dancers on stage to perform during her dynamic set. This all-girl troupe of young liturgical dancers performed choreographed numbers wearing customized sailor outfits in honor of the military.
The U.S.S. Midway Diversity Committee, a collection of veterans and business owners, are committed to reaching out all to communities within the city. They entrusted this vision to M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records and with collaborative efforts by the San Diego Urban League and key sponsors, Walmart, Comerica Bank of San Diego and Pastors on Point, the 1st annual benefit concert was realized.
The successful evening left concertgoers speculating about next year’s concert headliner and roster of performers as they departed the ship.
If the benchmark of a successful event is measured by the level of support it garners from the community – this event was a phenomenal success.
